Friday's here, let's take a ride
Good morning skiers, riders, and all other variations of snow sliders, and welcome to your Friday morning report from Brundage. Mother Nature packed us a mixed bag when she walked us to the bus stop dark and early this morning (I was hoping for a snack pack, but got plain celery sticks), and she could have a bit of a rollercoaster ride in store for us today. We’ll be here spinnin’ chairs when you’re ready to join us and see what else she packed us for lunch as we close out the week. Come prepared for a precip pop quiz today just in case, your trapper keeper stocked with all the outerwear essentials, like extra face coverings, varying lens options, etc.
Some would call yesterday a sleeper pow day, but the few of us that were here knew it wasn’t to be slept on. We were pleasantly surprised with snow top-to-bottom all the way til just before the final bell rang. Then, for the hour following closing and the evening beyond, we were escorted back to Mother Nature’s rollercoaster: the “Atmospheric Acrobat.” She decided that most the mountain was tall enough to ride the ride as freezing levels shot up and precip continued into the evening before slowing down overnight. As you’re out there doing your snow slide of choice today, expect surface conditions to shift in consistency as you make your way top-to-bottom. Today’s one of those days where goretex is a great idea. We’re expecting highs in the mid to upper 30s at our lower elevations on-hill, and the hope is that the forecast holds up for less precip during open hours and follows the precip pattern we’re used to around here, where we see a calm during the morning and afternoon. Huge shoutouts to grooming and lift maintenance crews this past couple weeks, as the ups and downs of weather rollercoasters make their jobs much more difficult.
THE GROOMING REPORT is a great place to start for slide studying, and our normal libation stations like Smoky’s, Bear’s Den, etc. will be waiting for you when you’re ready to kick back and thaw out.
Speaking of libations, Beer and Gear is tomorrow! What better way to spend a late winter weekend than trying out gear and sippin’ on beers. More Details here! And if you’re already thinking about future winters, click here to grab your pass for next season at the lowest and most fiscally responsible price you’ll see all year.
Whether today’s your seasonal snow sliding day 8, or day 80, we’re all along for the ride with Mother Nature today, and it’s better to be sliding down a hill than sitting on a couch.
Thanks for reading, and see you on the hill,
– AL Brundy
The following is how we classify grooming at Brundage Mountain Resort:
Groomed this morning: The run/trail has been groomed after 12:01am today.
Groomed last night: The run/trail was groomed between 4:01pm and 11:59pm, after the lifts closed.
Open: The run/trail is open for skiing/riding but has had no grooming operations on it.
Closed: STAY OUT OF THIS TERRAIN. Runs marked closed have not been deemed safe for the public to be on.
Upon entering CLOSED terrain, it jeopardizes Brundage Mountain Patrol’s ability to provide aid to you. Your skiing and riding privileges will also be at risk when entering closed terrain.
